Or you can get to the clubhouse Saturday 15th by 8am. We will car pool from the club house and leave together for Lukenya.

Bring: A packed lunch, plenty of waters and sun screen!

If you are not climbing, we still need you at Lukenya. MCK is now placing sign boards around Lukenya. Please join in and help the committee members. It will be great if you can come with shovels, pangas and hammers.

The Three Poles: North Pole, South Pole and Everest by Satyabrata Dam

Louis Leakey Auditorium, National Museums of Kenya
7pm, Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

The only man on the planet to have led successful expeditions to the north and south poles and to Everest, Satya has summited Everest three times, climbed the seven summits and has logged over 350 major summits around the globe – many of them first ascents and new routes. A retired Indian Navy submarine commander, he is former Indian national yachting champion, has sailed around the world and walked across the African continent.

Satya’s true passion lies in the sport of extreme mountaineering – charting new routes, undertaking highly technical climbs and exploring unknown valleys. Applying his experience in some of the deepest, most remote corners of the world, he now works as a motivational speaker and writer and continues to lead mountaineering and other outdoor adventure expeditions. He is a member of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation’s Scientific Exploration Committee and is currently working with TERI (The Energy Resources Institute) Glacier Project Team. Satya also collaborates with Icelandic Glacier Studies on climate change and the effects of global warming. Satya is a two-time recipient of the Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry), the Chief of Naval Staff Commendation (twice), the Commander-in-Chief Commendation and the Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award.

MCK member price KES 500, non-members KES 800. More details in the flyers below.

23rd to 27th/28th December : Ndotos with Ivy and Henrik

Ndotos Mountain Range in Northern Kenya is yet another testament to Kenya’s vast outdoor beauty. We plan to pitch base camp from 23rd to 27th/28th December on the Milgis Lugga, which is a strategic point between the Ndotos and Mathew ranges and from where we’ll conduct day hikes in that area. Peaks on Ndotos range from 2507m for the southern most range, 2635m at the center and 2534m at the northern most range. We will be able to see Baio on the far eastern side of the Ndotos at 1751m. Mathews Ranges start from 2068m on the southern most range, on to 2285m, 2375m, then down to 2288m on the northern most tip (closest to our base camp). We plan, time permitting, to explore most of the Ndotos ranges and extend onto Mathews when we can.

Distance: Nairobi to Laisamis is about 400km. Estimate from Laisamis to proposed base camp 100km giving a total of 500km (about 8hours drive). Last stop for fuel is Isolo, but remember our new fantastic super highway is now complete to Merille, where the tarmac ends and rough roads begins.
