25th May 2010 – Supper Night and Auction

In addition to the usual supper night, next Tuesday we will have an auction. Please bring any mountaineering gear, camping stuff, etc that you wish to sell, this Tuesday 25th May 2010 at 1900. Auction will begin soon after supper, at about 2030. Andy Gremley will officiate this year’s auction

Suggested items for sale – tents, sleeping bags, camping mats, lanterns, head torches, camp stoves, boots, climbing shoes/gear, backpacks, ropes, harnesses, etc. even things as small as water bottles. Everyone is requested to provide a reserve price for the costlier items.

Note that household items are NOT to be sold, only camping, climbing gear and any other outdoor stuff.

14th to 16th May – Mountain Biking in Njoro

Friday 14th May – travel to Kembu campsite in Njoro (www.kembu.com for directions/GPS coords, facilities, etc)
 
Saturday 15th May – 7am, ride out west into the Mau Forest. Ride length: up to 100kms possible depending on terrain. Loads of water, sunscreen, nutrition. This is an out and back ride so shorter distances possible but please get GPS so you can backtrack with minimal risk of getting lost…
 
Sunday 16th May – ride back into the Mau Forest, ride length and time to be discussed on Saturday night campfire.
 
Sunday afternoon travel back to Nairobi.

Saturday 15 May, Hike up Mount Essakut

An approximate six hour walk from the base of the mountain, this hike is great with all the trappings of a good day out! Views are supposed to be spectacular, on all sides with the maasai plains and on the other the city of Nairobi, so bring your camera.
The hike can be on loss and uneven gravel so hiking boots recommended. Additionally we are into the rains so rain gear is also required, hat, sun glasses, sun screen. Bring your packed lunch/trail food as well as at least three litres of water.
You will also need to pay for a guide which should be about 300/- in total for a group of 4. Also for those with a car, you’ll need to pay for parking of your car at a village manyatta of about 200/- per car.
Meet at Dormans Coffee shop, Karen Cross Roads shopping complex parking Lot at 9.00am, Saturday 15 May.
We will car pool so please let me know by noon Friday 14 May if you have room in your car for passengers (& how many) or if you need a ride.
