Face Climbing and Abseiling 103

Intermediate Rock Climbing Class at Lukenya

Sunday 16 May, Leave at 8:00 from the Sarit Centre east side parking lot

This is not a beginner’s class, students must have prior rock climbing experience and must be absolutely solid at putting on a harness, tying into the rope and belaying.

We will spend the day top roping a variety of problems and we will practice abseiling.   The instructors will setup top anchors, participants are expected to belay each other on the climbs.

Instructors will provide group equipment, participants are expected to bring their personal climbing equipment including a harness, helmet, shoes and belay device along with snacks and two liters of water.  Considering it is the rainy season, rain gear would be a good idea.  Do yourself a favor and wear sneakers or light boots, Lukenia is not a good place to walk around in open sandals or crocs.

Participants who do not own climbing equipment can rent it from the MCK clubhouse on Tuesday night.  The regular weekly rental rate of Sh 300 will apply.

Non-members are welcome to join the class.  Non-members must sign a liability waiver and pay Sh 400 for a day membership.  Non-members may rent equipment at the member rate (Sh 300/wk) for the class.  Since non-members are not permitted to take MCK equipment from the clubhouse, please give your rented equipment to an instructor on Tuesday night and they will bring it to Lukenia on Sunday.

Let me know if you are going to join us, if you have room for riders in your car or if you need a ride.  Riders are expected to compensate drivers (Sh, food, etc)

Instructors – The more instructors the merrier and the more interesting things we can do, so let me know if you want to help out.

Thanks,

Jim
