Crack Climbing and Stemming 102

Intermediate Rock Climbing Class at Hell’s Gate
Sunday 11 April leaving at 8:00 from the Sarit Centre

This is not a beginner’s class; students must have prior rock climbing experience and must be absolutely solid at putting on a harness, tying into the rope and belaying.

We will spend the day at the Hell’s Gate new entrance wall where students will top rope a variety of crack and stemming problems up to 15m long.  Since we will be jamming, do yourself a favor and get a roll of cloth/zinc oxide tape for your hands.  Tape makes jamming much more pleasant can be purchased at most pharmacies.

We will leave the Sarit Centre parking lot at 8:00 on Sunday morning.  I think/hope we are late enough in the year that the cliff will be in the shade all/much of the day.  Bring snacks and at least two liters of water.

Let me know if you are going to join us and if you have extra room in your car or if you need a ride.

Park Entrance Fees:
·         Citizen: Sh 200
·         Resident: Sh 500
·         Non-Resident: $25
·         Car: Sh300

Website interface review, and GPS navigation demonstration

Tuesday March 16th evening Will Hoffman will be showing off the new website, and demonstrate use of Global Positioninng System (GPS).

The website review’s purpose is to show current features and more importantly to give club members an idea of how easy it will be to update and mantain into the future. This will be especially important for anyone considering the position of Web Secretary on next years committee.

GPS navigation is a great aid for anyone looking to travel around in Kenya and can be a lifesaver in certain situations. This demonstation will focus on how to use two types of garmin GPS, the etrex which is great for hiking and biking and the nuvi which is best for driving. We’ll also discuss the use of Tracks for Africa which makes automobile based navigagation useable in Africa.
